The Columbia Tech Center Trail turns a campus-wide master plan into a connected network of routes and nodes. New trail segments, alternate pedestrian routes, wayfinding, bicycle markings, and furnishings follow a shared set of standards while adapting to existing conditions. At the wetland, the route shifts onto a boardwalk, bringing the trail into closer contact with one of the campus’s defining natural features.
“The vision was to connect multiple trail segments into one cohesive system, and we carried that framework through design and construction across the campus.”
“We used the master plan as a toolkit – a consistent set of cues for visibility, access, and identity that could be adapted from one trail segment to the next, strengthening the network for walking, biking, and recreation across the campus.”
