A bold, minimalist landscape was created for this modern home located on the Columbia River. The exterior focal point of the garden is an entry boardwalk, raised over a large storm water planter. Within the planter, are large, windswept basalt boulders that help mitigate grades and add visual interest. A single plant material, dwarf redtwig dogwood, fills the basin with ever–changing seasonal color. The remainder of the garden consists of large swaths of various ornamental grasses and low maintenance native vegetation. The Columbia River House earned a 2011 IIDA Award of Excellence and 2011 Golden Nugget Grand Award.
